Designed for SMBs the Dell EMC PowerEdge R440 server is a dual–socket 1U system that delivers the right size computing platform for scale-out infrastructure environments. It also offers improved security features plus intuitive management and automation features saving time and money on standard maintenance tasks. and offers for a 1U form factor.
With two processors, substantial storage, and memory, the Dell EMC PowerEdge R440 server is an excellent fit for standard business and High-Performance Computing (HPC) applications. With Intel's new Scalable processors Administrators can choose processor, memory, and storage options to suit their unique workloads. Dell's Gen14 line of servers are built for adaptability in the face of continually changing business demands and have the capacity and flexibility to support just about any workload.
Intel's Xeon Scalable processors enable Administrators to tailor the system to support current and future business needs. The Dell R440 server supports either one or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors from either the first or second generation with up to 22 cores each, and with two processors that's up to 44 cores of processing power. For more storage performance, the system can also be outfitted with up to four 3.5-inch NVMe PCIe SSDs to take advantage of the direct connection to the processor through the PCIe lanes.
In a two-processor configuration there are 16 active memory slots that can be outfitted with either registered (RDIMM) or load reduced (LRDIMM) DDR4 memory modules. With the new Scalable processors, memory will run at up to 2666MT/s when paired with an appropriate processor, and memory configuration that supports that speed.
The front drive bays on Dell EMC R440 can hold either eight 2.5-inch drives, four 3.5-inch drives, or ten 2.5-inch drives. The ten-bay 2.5-inch chassis also supports up to four NVMe SSD or PCIe drives for a maximum capacity of up to 48TB. For maximum storage performance the system can also be outfitted with eight NVMe drives or 12 2.5-inch drives with 10 drives in front and an optional rear-mounted drive cage supporting two 2.5-inch storage devices. The configurations with eight and four drives also supports an optional slimline optical device. Compatible drives include SAS, SATA, Nearline SAS, or NVMe. An internal PERC HD/RAID controller can be installed into a dedicated slot using an internal riser.
Expansion slots are variable depending on the number of processors and risers installed. If opting for the rear drive cage that supports two 2.5-inch drives, your configuration only allows for only one active PCIe slot. There are also risers that support up to three half-height cards or a combination with one half-height and one full height card.
Agent-free management is integrated with iDRAC 9.0 with Lifecycle Controller and OpenManage Essentials. The Dell PowerEdge R440 Server can also be accessed remotely and on site using the OpenManage Mobile app. The OpenManage Mobile App used with the new Quick Sync 2.0 that has been integrated into the server ear, works with an Android or iOS smartphone or tablet to provide system status, troubleshooting, and the app can be configured to receive alerts. The optional internal Dual SD Card Module (iDSDCM) comes with two SD cards for mirrored or single hypervisor support and an additional vFlash card for storing disk images for bare metal deployments using iDRAC.
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R440 server is an excellent platform for scale-out in datacenter environments and offers plenty of power for performance applications with support for 22-core processors, eight NVMe drives, and 10GE.
