The Dell PowerEdge R810 rack server offers substantial performance and rack density in a 2U space, supporting either two or four processors. Adaptable and flexible for a variety of common business applications, this server excels at workload consolidation and for use in highly virtualized environments.
Up to four Intel Xeon processors are supported on the Dell R810 server. As one of the top tier performers in Dell's 11th generation PowerEdge server line, it's built for reliability, availability, and serviceability—your basic RAS qualifications. There are also a number of new technologies supported on this system that are commonplace on the later generation servers.
The PowerEdge R810 server features Intel's 7510 chipset and will support a maximum of two or four CPUs, depending on your choice of processors. Using Intel Xeon 7500 or 6500 series processors, Administrators can install only two processors. If a four processor configuration is desired Administrators can choose from up to four Xeon E7-2800, E7-4800, or E7-8800 processors with up to ten cores. Intel Xeon 6500 and 7500 processors cannot be modified to support a four processor configuration.
DDR3 ECC Registered DIMM (RDIMM) and Low Voltage DIMM (LVDIMM) modules can be installed on the PowerEdge R810 and support memory speeds of up to 1066MT/s. Usually, in a two processor configuration, the other memory slots associated with CPU3 and CPU4 are not be accessible. Thanks to Dell's FlexMem Bridge, CPU1 and CPU2 can connect and utilize memory modules supported on the adjacent sockets typically supported by CPU3 and CPU4—without a CPU installed in those sockets. With all 32 memory slots loaded with 32GB memory modules, up to 1TB of memory is supported in either the two or four processor configuration. This is an excellent feature for memory-intensive applications.
Up to six 2.5-inch SAS, SATA, and nearline SAS HDDs and SSDs are supported. Mixing of hard drive types is allowed with some restrictions. Two types of Flash memory storage are supported on the system. An optional SD card can be installed on the iDRAC6 module with an Enterprise license, and a fully redundant Internal Dual SD Module (IDSDM) hosts the installed hypervisor, negating a potential single point of failure when used in mirror mode with two cards installed. There are several different integrated storage controllers offering mixed SSD and SAS RAID configurations, and plug into the dedicated internal SAS slot on riser one. There are also several external PERC RAID controllers supporting the full range of RAID options but only two additional PERC SAS cards are allowed on the system when used in conjunction with the integrated storage controller.
Six PCIe 2.0 slots, plus one dedicated slot for the internal RAID controller, can be used to support additional NICs, external RAID controllers, or HBAs. This platform features an LOM with Embedded Gigabit Ethernet (GBE) Controllers, with four ports standard. There's also two embedded dual-port LAN controllers with a PCIe 2.0 interface for increased I/O. Installing an optional NIC hardware key on the system board will activate additional functionalities on the integrated NICs. An integrated Matrox G200 video subsystem is incorporated on the iDRAC6 to support 2D graphics.
Dell's PowerEdge line of servers features a suite of integrated management tools, and the PowerEdge R810 is no exception. It comes with iDRAC Express. Dell's OpenManage with Lifecycle controller, provides comprehensive management features enabling Administrators to manage the server on-site or remotely. The embedded iDRAC module supports out-of-band systems management, deployment, and update using a standard browser. As mentioned above, an Enterprise license activates an optional dedicated vFlash SD module to support iDRAC and maintain server provisioning data.
The Dell R810 server is an excellent choice for supporting a wide range of common business applications, highly virtualized environments, and data base applications. Featuring support for both two and four processors, 32 memory modules, and substantial storage, there's plenty of room to scale as your business grows.
