The 8-bay, 1U Dell EMC PowerEdge XR2 server is designed for industrial applications and harsh environments. The short case has eight front storage bays and supports one or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors, plus up to 2TB of memory.
Designed to withstand extreme temperatures, humidity, shock, electromagnetic interference, and altitude, this server is also designed for tight spaces with a 20-inch server depth. It’s ready for use in the back of a truck, on a plane, an oil rig, or a container ship—places with inconsistent access to remote data centers. The Dell EMC PowerEdge XR2 server has the performance you need for those out-of-the-way locations.
This system can be outfitted with one or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors up to 150W for both conditions. Memory will run at speeds of up to 2666MHz in six memory channels per CPU.
Either Registered (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported on this chassis. CPU 1 provides the most memory for a single processor deployment with 10x memory module slots in 2+2+1 configuration. The second processor supports 6x memory module slots with each memory module occupying its very own memory channel.
Eight drive bays up front can be loaded with SATA or SAS 2.5-inch HDDs or SSDs. SATA drives are supported natively, while SAS drives require a PERC controller, if you just want more control over your storage. The system also supports two M.2 drives in two dedicated slots just behind the control panel. An additional boot optimized storage subsystem can also be installed for support of the operating system and installs in one of the low-profile PCIe card slots. Another dedicated slot on the motherboard can be used to support a microSD card with two microSD cards on one side and a vFlash card on the other for use by iDRAC. The microSD card module can be used to support the OS or a hypervisor in mirror mode for redundancy.
Two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots support one or two risers for support of one or two optional cards, including faster NICs, a lone Tesla T4 compute accelerator and/or a boot optimized storage subsystem (BOSS). A dedicated slot on the system board supports a PERC HD/RAID controller. Another dedicated slot on the motherboard can be used for a microSD card module featuring two micro SD cards on one side and a vFlash card on the other for use by iDRAC. The microSD card module can be used with only a single microSD card, or with two, that will operate in mirror mode for redundancy. An LOM riser slot on the motherboard can be outfitted with a number of optional cards supporting different network connection speeds and ports.
The Dell XR2 Server is intelligent platform management interface (IPMI) compatible and features the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) 9.0 with Lifecycle Controller for at-chassis and remote management of the system over its lifecycle. Optionally, you can order the system with a Quick Sync 2.0 control. A dedicated port on the back of the system provides network access to the iDRAC management module for remote and at-chassis management of the system.
For deployments in industrial settings and remote locations, the Dell EMC PowerEdge XR2 server fits the bill. Outfitted with dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors it can support up to 2TB of memory, 8x 2.5-inch storage bays up front support either SAS or SATA drives, and can be RAIDed for performance or data resiliency. An integrated dual M.2 module can provide fail-safe redundancy for the installed OS.
