The HPE ProLiant XL170r Gen9 Server is a half-width, 1u, 2-socket server node designed for the HPE Apollo r2600 chassis. One to four nodes can be installed in the Apollo r2600 chassis and can be configured, and serviced independently.
The XL170r Gen9 compute node is hot-pluggable and designed to address standard enterprise workloads like web services, cloud, and data center deployments. HPE Apollo r2600 Gen9 Chassis offers a very dense solution with support for up to four HPE ProLiant XL170r Gen9 server nodes supporting up to eight processors in a 2U space.
Administrators have several processor options for dual and single processor node configurations. Choose from either the Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or E5-2600 v4 processor family with 4 to 22 cores for a single or dual processor configuration, or choose from three supported Intel E5-1600 v3 processors, supporting 4 to 8 cores for a single processor configuration.
High-performance registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) DDR4 memory modules are supported on the system. Each processor controls eight memory module slots for a total of sixteen memory modules, and a maximum of 512GB using 32GB LRDIMM memory modules. Registered and load-reduced memory modules cannot be mixed within individual server nodes. Memory speeds are dependent on both the memory configuration and processor model, and may run at either 2400, 2133MHz, 1866MHz, or 1600MHz. DDR3 memory is not supported on this system. DDR4 SmartMemory is required to realize full memory performance.
Storage is handled by the Apollo r2600 chassis with up to 24 SAS or SATA HDDs or SSDs supported. The drives are automatically mapped to the server blades. For local server node storage, the node supports two M.2 storage sticks with up to 256GB of memory each. To access the front-mounted drives, administrators have a choice of storage controllers. Either the Smart Array P440, or P441 with one or two 12GB ports, respectively, or choose from the HPE H240 and H241 Host Bus Adapter. Additional Enulux Fibre Channel HBAs are supported.
Depending on the specific application, the XL170r Gen9 will support up to two PCIe 3.0 slots using three optional riser kits. PCIe slot one is controlled by processor one and offers a x16 bus width to support optional NICs or storage controllers. Slot one can also be outfitted with an optional riser with x8 bus to support a FlexibleLOM. The second PCIe slot also requires an optional riser and can support additional NICs or RAID/storage controllers. A dedicated slot on the motherboard supports an optional M.2 SSD storage device. Video is provided by an integrated Matrox G200 video chip that supports resolutions of up to 1920 x 1200 and also provides 16MB Flash or 256MB DDR3 memory with ECC for iLO 4 On System Management Memory.
Integrated Lights-Out 4.0 (iLO) is embedded on the system board. Several other management applications help to improve resiliency and uptime of your HPE server including Intelligent provisioning, Smart Update, and Insight Online, to name a few. iLO can also be upgraded with an Advanced License offering smart remote server management without sacrificing security and offers a full suite of features to support your network. For more information on management features, review the HPE ProLiant Xl170r Gen9 Server QuickSpecs in the Documentation section below.
