The Dell Precision 5820 Workstation Tower is Dell's latest single-socket workstation for content creators. Using the latest Intel Xeon W processors enables the Dell 5820 Workstation to power the most demanding applications. The new Intel Xeon W processors power a new generation of single-socket architecture with 4 to 18 cores to extract maximum performance for the biggest ideas. In addition, every Dell Precision comes with the exclusive Dell Precision Optimizer, which automatically tunes your workstation to run some of the most popular Independent Software Vendor (ISV) applications at the fastest speeds possible.
SAS and SATA HDDs, SSDs, plus NVME, and M.2 drives are supported in the front hot-swap drive carriers of the 5820 Tower Workstation. SATA drives are supported on the integrated controller but if you want to install SAS drives you will need to install an optional HD/RAID controller. The main drive bays can be converted to support either one 3.5-inch or two 2.5-inch drives for a total of either six 2.5-inch drives or five 3.5-inch drives with a total storage capacity of 28TB.
The Dell Precision 5820 Workstation Tower includes four channel memory up to 256GB 2666MHz DDR4 ECC memory with 8 DIMM slots. The workstation will detect and correct the most common kinds of internal data corruption while also achieving higher speed and efficiency thanks to increased transfer rates and decreased voltage.
Six PCIe Generation 3 slots on the system board include two PCIe x16, one PCIe x16 wired as x8, one PCIe x16 wired as x4, one PCIe x16 wired as x1, and one PCI 32/33. On the front of the 5820 Tower Workstation you'll find the power button, an SD card reader, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 3.1 Type C ports, and a universal headphone jack. At the back of the system you'll find, a single 425W or 950W PSU, a headphone jack, VGA port, ports for mouse and keyboard, and six USB 3.0 ports. You can install up to 600W of graphics power, up to 300W per card, with the 950W PSU installed. Both AMD Radeon or NVIDIA graphics cards. Including the Radeon Pro WX 9100 and NVIDIA Quadro GP100 for high-end results.
Users of the 5820 Workstation Tower can choose Windows 10 Pro, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or Ubuntu as the operating systems. Downtime is hardly a consideration with Dell's Reliable Memory Technology designed to protect your workstation from potential crashes by mapping out bad memory locations after the system reboots. In addition, Dell Precision Optimizer enables users to tailor the performance of their ISV certified applications for the best speed based on the configuration.
