The Dell Precision T7610 Tower Workstation is a dual processor, mid-range appliance that's ideal for demanding workloads. It features exceptional scalability and performance. ISV certification ensures compatibility with software applications in design, engineering, and science.
Released in 2013, Dell originally billed this as the "world's most powerful tower workstation". Since then Dell has come out with a few other systems that surprisingly offer even greater performance but the Dell T7610 still delivers plenty of performance with the ability to install up to two processors, loads of memory, storage, and support for up to three graphics cards.
The Dell T7610 is ISV certified to perform effortlessly running intensive software applications used by design engineers, financial analysts, and geologists. ISV is an acronym for Independent Software Vendor and means these independent software vendors have tested the software, hardware, and components to ensure stable and reliable performance.
The system supports several versions of Windows and also supports Linux Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Dell's Precision Optimizer takes the guesswork out of customizing the settings for specific supported programs and helps configure application settings to maximize performance with automatic setting based on aplication. Patented Reliable Memory Technology (RMT) also helps manage your system by working in conjunction with ECC memory to detect and correct errors in real time. The system also supports several security features including lockable hard drives and power supply, an intrusion sensor and data protection, advanced authentication, and malware protection.
Dell's Precision T7610 workstation features the Intel C602 chipset to support up to two Xeon E5-2600 v2 processors with up to 12 cores each. Quad-channel memory supports up to 512GB using 32GB memory modules. This is a fairly quiet system but acoustical performance can be improved by installing an optional liquid cooling solution.
The 7910 supports an abundance of storage with up to four 3.5-inch SATA drives or eight 2.5-inch SATA/SAS drives with four of them housed in the media bay. The external 5.25-inch media bay can be converted to support up to four 2.5-inch drives using an optional media bay adapter. The system will also supports an optional Micron P320h PCIe SSD drive. Storage control is handled by the integrated LSI 23089 SATA/SAS 6GB/s controller or an optional LSI 9271-8iSATA/SAS PCIe controller. Both feature limited RAID of 0, 1, and 10 but you also get RAID 5 with the optional LSI 9271 controller.
Quad-channel memory supports up to 512GB with a two-processor configuration. There are 16 memory slots total—8 slots allocated to each CPU. Both RDIMMs and LRDIMMS are supported but cannot be mixed and offer speeds of up to 1833MHz. Speed of processing defaults to the slowest performer between the memory modules and CPUs.
The 7610 supports a 1300W power supply with up to 675 watts dedicated to graphics card support. Up to three high–end Nvidia GPUs including the Quadro K5000. Only two Nvidia Quadro K6000 cards can be installed. Optional NICs, storage controllers and an optional PCIe SSD can be installed in one of the six PCIe slots located on the system board. There are several USB ports; four in front, six on the back, and three internal.
While this system is a few years old at this point, it still delivers outstanding performance at a reasonable price. The T7610 also features ISV certification and is designed to meet the needs of professionals working across a wide range of industries. The integrated handles on the front and back of the system are a nice touch and make it easy to move the system around the office. This is an excellent choice for professionals and working in design, architecture, engineering, scientific analysis, financial analysis, and gas and oil exploration.
