The HP Z640 Workstation is HP's second most powerful workstation and is an exceptional platform for analyzing large amounts of data. It features an abundance of customization options and is an ideal platform for video editing, 3D and 2D graphics, architecture, engineering, and finance.
The HP Z640 Workstation is designed for compute-intensive applications like complex imaging, CAD, finance, research, and geologic exploration. Boasting more customization options than previous Z-Series models, the system can be easily upgraded to meet user-specific needs and device support. New features include better expandability, greater throughput speeds and efficiency, tool-free component upgrades, and integrated handles. HP calls this system "Whisper Quiet", with acoustical levels at about what you would expect in a library.
Users can choose from one or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or E5-2600 v4 processors, or a single E5-1600 v3 or E5-1600 v4 processor. Using top of the line E5-2699 v4 processors with 55MB cache supporting 22 cores, that's 44 cores total in a two processor configuration! Users can start out with just one processor and quickly scale by adding a unique CPU riser board supporting a second processor and 4 additional memory slots. Hyper-Threading, Turbo boost, and Thunderbolt technology are also supported and guarantee faster performance.
Using HP's DDR4 SmartMemory with an appropriate processor, and optimized memory configuration can achieve memory speeds of up to 2400MHz. Only Registered (RDIMM) and Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported but cannot be mixed. Non-Uniform Memory Allocation (NUMA) is also supported enabling users to mix and match memory modules of different capacities. In a dual processor configuration, a maximum capacity of 256GB is available when loaded with 32GB LRDIMM modules or up to 128GB using 16GB RDIMM modules.
This system supports a hefty 16TB of storage using enterprise-class SATA HDDs. RAID configurations of 0, 1, 5, and 10 are available using the integrated RAID support. With two AHCI controllers, you get enhanced storage operation and a range of recent innovations including HP's Performance Advisor, Turbo Drive, TRIM command support for SSDs, and Native command queuing. These technologies create meaningful performance benefits such as auto-optimized command execution, automated configurations and updates to make your life easier. TRIM for SSDs extends longevity, while Turbo Drive reduces bottlenecks leading to quicker boot up, faster rendering of graphics or video, and speedier results of mega sized calculations. An additional terabyte of storage can be installed using the optional PCIe HP Z Turbo Drive G2 SSD, which will take up one or two of the PCie 3.0 x4 slots. The Optional PCIe SSDs can be used for faster boot up or users can opt for a removable boot drive option.
This workstation features six PCI slots total with a mix of PCIe 3.0, 2.0, and one legacy slot for older cards. PCI Express 3.0 technology enables superior performance and improved I/O bandwidth while reducing latency. Four USB 3.0 ports on the front, and 4 in the rear, support additional media cards, storage, or connections for external devices. A second CPU can be installed without tools using an optional CPU riser, which easily clips in place by hand to provide up to 22 more cores (using E5-2600 v4 processors) and support for up to 128GB more RAM. HP's Thunderbolt Technology is optional and enables super-fast data transfers and is compatible with the Nvidia Quadro K620, K2200, and K4200 only. For high performance computing, Nvidia's Tesla K40 Workstation coprocessor can be installed in one of the many PCIe slots. Depending on your choice of video card, this system will support multiple monitors, 4k video display, and simultaneous capture along with 20GB/s data throughput in each direction.
Managing this workstation is made easy by the Performance Advisor, a free download, which automates updates and new configurations. Intel's Active Management Technology that increases the efficiency of network synchronizations. Remote configuration and graceful shutdown is supported in addition to several other management features.
The HP Z640 tower workstation delivers peak performance and is built to adapt to your changing your needs. Users can start out with just one processor, for a reasonable entry-level price, and easily scale to a two processor configuration and more memory using the optional CPU riser card. Substantial compute and graphics power is packed into a very quiet and efficient tower form factor that's also 4U rack mountable. Loaded with dual Intel Xeon processors will maximize your output and enable up to eight displays. The system is also ISV certified to deliver peak performance with your programs of choice.
